We suggest some of the main tourist towns that our guests should visit and which are within easy reach by car or train from our B&B.
Assisi, the town of San Francesco, is only a few kilometers away from Spello. It offers many tourist attractions, a wonderful historical and artistic heritage. Among the remains which testify to its roman origin, we find the Minerva temple and the amphitheatre. Assisi has also amazing churches, such as, the Cathedral of San Francesco, which houses the cycle of frescos by Giotto, and the Cathedral of Santa Chiara. In addition, there are Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque sites. "What to visit" list in this town can be extremely long.
Bevagna is a characteristic Umbrian village which is very pleasant to visit. It was created on the ancient Roman road called "Via Flaminia". What certainly impresses tourists is the majestic Silvestri square, considered to be among the most remarkable Medieval urban creations of Umbria.
Every year the village celebrates "Il Mercato delle Gaite", usually in June, which is a Medieval festival of historic commemoration.
Montefalco is another Umbrian village, surrounded by vineyards and olive tree groves, called "the railing of Umbria". It is especially famous for its wine making. It is a 30-minute drive from Spello.
Perugia, the main city of this wonderful region, is a 30-minute drive from Spello. It is a city of art with plenty of monuments and with a great history. Every year it houses the most important jazz music festival on the Italian stage: Umbria Jazz.
Spoleto, not too far from our B & B as well, is an Umbrian town set atop the Sant'Elia hill. It is the ancient capital of the Langobard dukes and it has a rich historical-artistic heritage. It is a very lively town, infact, it houses many remarkable events at national level.
There are many events throughout the year which take place in the different towns of Umbria. For example, in the beautiful Spoleto there is "Il Festival dei Due Mondi”, a famous musical, cultural, artistic occasion, but it's not the only one, this town also celebrates another famous festival: "Vini nel mondo", where the best wine tasting is combined with culture and fun. Montefalco houses the event called "Cantine Aperte", a very important festival of Wine Tourism.
Umbria is a small region, but has many events, for this reason we suggest that you should always check our section "News" where we keep you updated on the events that take place, specifying the date. Of course, they are within easy reach from our B & B. But please, do not forget the most important festival in Spello, we have already talked about it in the description: Infiorata! It is worth it!
